I recommend this book for teaching the first grade farm unit in Bridges math program. It covers each animal spotlighted in the program and others. The photos were great and the information was age appropriate for first graders.

Good for what it is, but the book is really short with very little content.

I ordered this book for my Kindergarten classroom. We were doing a unit on farms and the animals that live there. The kids loved it.

I saw a few sample lessons on youtube and knew these DVD lessons would be gold. The knowledge contained in her workshops will indeed boost your writing and storytelling abilities. If you're strapped for cash, get the workbook first, but make sure you build your collection of the DVD's. Great Job!

I am sorry I bought this book. Probably my mistake as it is really to be used in a classroom with a teacher.Make sure you know what you are getting if you want to buy this book.

I came on Amazon today to order another workbook. My old one is worn out. I use this workbook. I use the workbook, especially certain pages and certain lists. I use the workbook and a spiral notebook for each story. Just a piece of advice--don't lend your workbook! Before you start your next story, use the workbook and the videos. I think this storytelling workbook/DVD series is different from others in the "how to write" genre. It's not that the guides walk you through writing a script or story-they do. It's that your own ideas "ferment" from minor ideas to big, big ideas and scenes as you progress through the workbook and the videos. The author seems intrusive at first in the videos, but later, her presence in the videos is needed as you watch the micro-budget films others and she has created. When a writer starts the myflik.com videos, it's the beginning of a lush and inspiring experience. And the visual on the introduction DVD seems odd, but that is because it is not the same old "how to write" scripts and novels workbooks and videos classes. I wish I had this ten video and workbook class ten years ago. My book series created while incorporating the workbook and DVDs are slotted for December 2014. The proof is in the pudding--right? I give this series 4.5/5 stars. It really could be 5/5 for usefulness.

Information please, for those who do not know, was a radio quiz program in which three panelists and one guest celebrity answered questions submitted by the radio listeners. If the question stumpted the experts, then the submitter won prize money and a set of encyclopedias. The radio program was popular, making Oscar Levant a Hollywood actor. A short lived series of film shorts and a summer-run television program as well as the popular Information Please almanac were given birth because of this program.The behind-the-scenes stories are hilarious. Which actor got mike fright, one actor's recollections of why he did not want to do the program in the first place and later enjoyed a healthy return to the series year after year. Since the book documents the "lost" episodes as well the ones that exist in recording form today, I was shocked to learn that director Frank Capra and actor James Stewart appeared as guests on the broadcast of January 22, 1947 to help publicize "It's a Wonderful Life." Baseball star Jackie Robinson appeared as a guest for the broadcast of April 23, 1947, noting a man of color as a guest -- almost unheard of during the 1940s on quiz programs.Besides the usual treatment given to a radio program such as the origin and demise, this book covers absolutely everything. The Information Please card game, details involving a number of lawsuits, the war bond sales drives, the Lucky Strike lawsuit, The 1945 Information Please European Tour, the Parker Pen connection, celebrity letters received by the stumpers, reprints of the contracts between the network and the creator, and more.I read the reviews from the other Amazon.com customers and I do not agree with their negatives. Sorry, the book IS well written. I found it to be an enjoyable read. I wish there were more books like this. The book's size is not questioned. If it had been twice the size, I would have had to pay a larger retail price. Only complaint is I wish the author, qualified, would write a book on my other favorite radio quiz program, It Pays to be Ignorant which is also an enjoyable radio program and sadly only half a dozen episodes known to exist in recorded form.

Information, Please was a classic radio show that turned the tables on the experts by having the listeners ask them questions instead of vice versa as is usual. For its time it was unique and might have failed had not some wonderfully witty and downright funny and interesting experts been the mainstay of the show. Add to that special guests who ranged from such classic actors as Basil Rathbone and Boris Karloff to comedians such as the ever popular Fred Allen rounding out the show.Martin Grams does his usual sterling job, with lots of interesting stuff to read, amking this more than just a straight out-and-out episode guide or a dry, dusty tome suitable for Old Time Radio researchers alone. Scattered liberally throughout the book are comical questions, answers and situations that happened during the show's 13 years on radio, such as when a noted Professor of Philosophy sent a question in. His many achievements and reputation being discussed by question master Clifton Fadiman at length prior to the question being asked, making the panel of experts extremely nervous! The question? 'What National League baseball team won the pennant only once?'!! A classic wind-up!As a matter of fact, I have only a couple of minor quibbles with Mr Grams' book:1) In the index the guest 'Roosevelt, Jr., Theodore' appears after 'Root, Waverly' instead of before;2) The book is waaay too short. At around 250 pages I'd have preferred more stories from either behind the scenes or in front of the microphone rather than the 30 pages of contracts between the companies, sponsors and experts. Okay, this was in an appendix, but 30 pages seems a bit excesssive, considering this is nearly an eighth of the book.Otherwise its a good book. Keep 'em coming, Mr Grams!

It pains me to be be uncharitable to INFORMATION, PLEASE, as I greatly respect Mr. Grams' devotion to and services for old-time radio. The book's faults are several: its prose is not, shall we say, sterling---it bristles with solecisms and is often awkward; the proofreading is a disgrace and errors abound; surely more pictures were available?---if stills from the now-lost I,P shorts exist, why aren't they included in the book?; and [...] Grams' volume is way, way overpriced.Given these and other reasons, I can't recommend it but, paradoxically, if you're a fan of the program you'll want to own it because it's the only book dedicated to that marvelous adventure in broadcasting, INFORMATION, PLEASE. Until a comprehensive, better-written history of the show appears (an unlikely prospect, admittedly), this will have to do.
