If you're looking for comedy like the show, this book doesn't have it. Also if you want to learn about duck breeds, this book has it. I was looking for comedy and a little less biology out of this book. Granted I find Phil's take on everything interesting but the laughs that you get on the show or the super funny interactions just aren't there. There are a few funny moments but not much. You can still tell that Phil wrote this as all his little quips are still in it. A good book about his life, getting where he is today, and hunting, just wish it was a wee bit happy happy happier.

Ok if you are a Duck Dynasty fan, I really think you are going to enjoy this. If you do not want to hear about God's grace and how it changed Phil Robertson's life, you may want to skip this book. I believe it is an even balance of regular life and how God is dispersed through it. I really enjoyed his point of view and learning how he grew up and Duck Commander started. I hope my opinion helps you in purchasing this book.

I have to admit I do enjoy the show. It is funny and entertaining. But I can't honestly say that I am a BIG duck dynasty fan. My wife watches the new episodes every week, and she will spend hours in front of the TV watching the reruns. ME, I enjoy it, but if I miss an episode I don't give it a second thought. That's why my wife will most likely enjoy this book much more than I did. I considered giving it only two stars, but the truth is I did enjoy it for the most part. After discussing his early years and the beginnings of the Duck Commander empire, Phil Robertson spends a great deal of time discussing his politics and even more time discussing his religion. Frankly, I don't enjoy those two topics very much. I have nothing against either of them. I just get bored easily when the discussion turns to them. BUT...if you are one of the people that enjoys such topics then you will probably really enjoy this book. You may even give it four or five stars. The book was just not MY cup of tea!

Many have found Phil Robertson's story about redemption and perseverance inspiring. He also shares a depth of knowledge about natural resources, as well as sage advice about life and overcoming trials and tribulations. Phil is descended from James Robertson, co-founder of the city of Nashville and compatriot of Daniel Boone. His ancestors were early American settlers who moved from Tennessee to Louisiana. Thankfully, he and his clan are preserving a wealth of natural resource knowledge and practical American traditions that have become too rare. "Nearly everything we ate came from our land. The eggs came from our chickens, the milk and butter from our cows. Bacon and sausage came from the hogs we raised and butchered. We canned vegetables from our large garden" (Robertson 2013:13). His family raised an amazing plethora of produce, including: "English peas, butter and pole beans, lettuce, turnips, mustard greens, onions, radishes, carrots. Irish and sweet potatoes, cantaloupes, and watermelons, my family grew several fields of peas, peanuts, and corn" (2013:13). This was supplemented with beef they raised, and of course, wild game. Phil is a compelling narrator - what an amazing story about a mysterious, ancient water-hole, surrounded by huge trees (one cypress with an enormous hollow trunk, about twenty feet wide, perfect for a blind) where the ducks spiraled down, covering the water so thickly it was "like a giant raft made of ducks" (2013:74).On his property seen on Duck Dynasty: Season Four, the Robertson clan continued their gardening traditions. Phil's vivid description of that geography, history of Indian campgrounds and burials, is fascinating. Through years of intense work, Phil Robertson has carefully managed his wetlands ecosystem to enhance and restore its health. He labored for years to replace acres of bitter pecan trees, which are inhospitable to wildlife, and replace them with acorn-producing oak trees that would provide "a more palatable fare for a wider variety of wildlife" (2013:163). He has also "planted, cultivated, and protected the grasses" on his land; his "wetlands are covered with native millets, sedges, and nut grass, as well as planted stands of Pennsylvania smartweed, American smartweed, and sprangletop, creating a mosaic of wild and cultivated plants" (2013:161). He shares a wealth of information about various species of ducks, and it's fascinating to read about his fishing business; great story about an immense haul of delicious Opelousas (flathead catfish), really of Biblical proportions! Great chapter discussing our Founding Fathers; catch what Jefferson said relevant to current health care issues, "To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical" (2013:209). We really enjoyed this inspiring book, and hope Phil chooses to share more in the future. Perhaps he might consider writing more about his land-management, wildlife, and wetlands ecosystems, with photographs - it would be much appreciated! Enjoy!

This is an autobiography of Duck Dynasty's founding father, Phil Robertson. It is an absolutely fascinating read. You may recall that Phil's comments to GQ magazine caused quite a furor in 2013, and you probably either love or hate the show based on his family on A&E cable channel. This book, among other things, puts his comments in perspective - something the mass media did not attempt to do.And, it does a lot more than that. I even learned a lot more than I knew about hunting and duck calls. In fact I had no idea the duck call business could be that good -- but, I've read elsewhere that the business has made him worth about $20 million. Warning: if you are a PETA member you will hate this guy. He spends a lot of time hunting and eating what he hunts - definitely not a vegetarian.Robertson has been many things: oil field worker, bar owner, rake, hunter, commercial fisherman, inventor (of duck calls), salesman and preacher. Mostly he is a hunter and very good father and husband. He is also a very smart man, belying his "redneck" persona. This book takes you through the whole progression of his life from childhood to his present life as a multi-millionaire semi-retired businessman, speaker, head of a close and loving family, lay evangelist, and reality television star.Along the way he clearly shows how his practical philosophy and spiritual life developed. It seems like he really has found the secret of creating a loving family productive over several generations and found a way to be happy, happy, happy no matter the external circumstances. The result is a great read which is inspirational, comforting to the religious or the troubled, and which makes you look at the Duck Dynasty show with new, and perhaps more sympathetic, eyes. He tells a great story. Whether you agree with him or not, like the show or not, or haven't seen it, you will find this read worthwhile. It made me "Happy, Happy, Happy."

Great little book, can read it in an hour or two and you will not regret. It's a 1936 sales pitch to the European powers that it would be bad for Italy to conquer Ethiopia. Did you know that Ethiopia was the first Christian nation? That it was never conquered by a European power? That it is large, populous, optimistic, proud, industrious, and above all green?Written by a Jamaican who came of age in New York during the Harlem Renaissance, the book is passionate, personal, and a downright pleasure to read -- not the dry tome one fears when presented with the term "history book." Nonetheless, despite his personal investment in the thesis, Rogers does not get bogged down in being negative about white supremacy nor resort to conspiracy theories, as do many authors on such topics. Rather he sticks to enriching stories and real facts.Highly recommended.

I had many questions about about Haile Selassie when I picked up this book, I have none as I set it down. If you've ever wondered who the man was, what he did, and why he is revered by some cultures, this book will clear up much of the mystery for you.

I choose this rating for this book. I think J.A. Rogers did a profound job explain the history behind Ethiopia roots from the dark history until now. It also explains the effects of greed and enemy behind politics and religion to control the masses of people. Melanted people need to awake out of the sleep, that has kept us blinded for years.

A short, but informative history. Not everyone knows that Ethiopia was never conquered by any European country or that Ethiopia defeated the Italians and drove them out.

A 4 star rating due to facts and content flowed that have reader an understanding.I liked learning about the country of Ethiopia.I recommend book to other readers that have ever wondered why Ethiopia stood unconquered whereas other nations were.

Very interesting subject matter but sometimes a confusing presentation.I don't have anything else to say about this topic. Okay

It’s a must read to know the facts.!! History matters and knowledge is certainly power

Don't shell out the money for the 7th edition. I got the 6th edition used for $19 and when I compared it to the newer one, I saw no real differences in the text. My professor for A&P 1 didn't require the access code, but my professor for A&P 2 did so I just bought it separately from the publisher ($125). I still saved a lot of money overall rather than if I had bought the 7th edition new bundled with the access code, which sells for around $200-300. So 5 stars for low price and good seller.I took 2 stars off for the contents of the textbook itself. I had another textbook from a previous class (it was a standalone anatomy class, and not the combined anatomy and physiology) - Human Anatomy, 8th edition by Martini. Martini's book blows Saladin's book out of the water with its beautiful and clear illustrations and diagrams. I found myself constantly using Martini's textbook when I was studying to get a full understanding of anatomy. It offers different views of structures and is extremely detailed, and as a visual learner, I really appreciated that because it constantly helped me see anatomy in the body as a whole and how every system was connected and working together - not as individual pieces which parts needed to be memorized, as Saladin's textbook teaches it. I only wish Martini's textbook included physiology as well, then I could've relied solely on that book. Saladin's textbook is fine when it comes to physiology (though it could use more diagrams). I just wish it would explain concepts more thoroughly.Overall, it's hard to learn anatomy from Saladin's textbook, and if I didn't have Martini's textbook as a backup I would've been in for a major headache. When it comes to physiology, it does the job, but as a visual learner, I could've used more diagrams and figures that displayed the concepts it was trying to explain. I supplemented this with the book A Visual Guide to Human Anatomy and Physiology by Krieger and it helped me a lot, so I very much recommend it to other visual learners, or even non-visual learners since it has some cool study tricks in it, such as remembering how many vertebrae are in the main 3 sections of the spinal column by thinking of them as meal times - 7 for cervical (breakfast time), 12 for thoracic (lunch), and 5 for lumbar (dinner). And of course, I also recommend Martini's textbook (if you can find a cheap copy of it), Kaplan's anatomy flash cards, and the Anatomy and Physiology for Dummies Workbook (to prepare for tests). These four additional resources helped me pass both semesters of A&P with A's, but if I only had this textbook to rely on, I would've definitely not done as well. Use if required for your class, but if you're self-studying or you have the opportunity to pick a textbook to utilize, chose something different.

The price of the book is outrageous! the previous edition has the exact same material and its only 40 bucks. Don't pay $200 dollars for a book with a few more pages and few more pictures. There is hardly any difference! BUY THE OLD EDITION!

Ordered this book with access card, and the card was invalid, I had to purchase a new access card for another 100 bucks. There is another version to rent with out an access card that is much cheaper. Dont waste your $$ on this one

The book itself is fine, but I strongly recommend against buying or renting it from Amazon. You will not get the Connect access code with the book, which means you will not be able to do coursework for any professor that uses Connect unless you pay for it twice. Also, the book does not support text-to-speech on Kindle, or VoiceOver in the kindle app.

This book has great illustrations and explains concepts in a way almost anyone can understand them. This book got me through AP I and II. My AP II class wanted me to use the newer version of this text book, but I was going to shell out another $100. My classmates sometimes asked to look at mine because it explained things better than the newer version.

The book itself is fine. The spine is ripped at the top, but definitely still usable. The reason I gave it 2 stars is because it is advertised as A&P WITH a connect card, but mine came with a code that has already been redeemed. An access card is $150 so I would have saved money buying a used textbook (because I will need it for two semesters). It is $30 more to rent advertised with the access code. What you're really paying for with that extra $30 (based on other reviews) is the possibility of a connect card. Not a happy customer. I will be returning and purchasing a used one that will save money in the long run.

Please note this is a very helpful book. However many Professors use the Connect feature listed on the inside cover. Many School bookstores include this access in their prices. Please bear this in mind prior to your purchase here because Amazon does not provide this access in the cover price of the book and you must then purchase it online for an additional cost of around $57-$100 as of 1/17/12

GET THIS BOOK! My college recommended getting the newer version of the book but trust me it isn't worth it. This book goes in the exact same order as the other book, has the same figures, and same descriptions. I got an A in my class using this book without trouble. SAVE THE MONEY and get this book!
