This is must reading for every American. Commerce is the electricity which powers life on this globe. Failure to understand how it works is a failure to harness the power you need to be effective in life and relegates you to the heap of 'ignorant victims' when the system will chew you up and spit you out after fleecing you for all you have. The book is an easy read for all of the 'non-lawyers' among us. It it is a wonderful primer on fundamental issues we all need to be fluent in. As someone who is already well versed in such matters, I found it's review a refreshing reminder of some of the most substantive elements of commerce which we all need to have a firm grasp of. Reviewer 'David-Not Even Close' is way off base in his analysis as he seems to have expected a comprehensive treatise of law on the subject with complete footnoted legal memorandum. That is 'not even close' to the purpose of the book and would be impossible in the short 150 pages the author put together. Further, to say that the courts don't recognize anything this book puts forward is pure folly. The courts, the government and private companies operate on the very principles brought forward on a daily basis. Having said that, using the courts as a 'barometer' for validity is like asking Obama for business advice! Truth and justice based on time tested maxims of law which are inescapable, and what the courts selectively enforce and rule on are often mutually exclusive which leads me to believe that Reviewer David is himself not interested in truth and law, but rather has an agenda to disparage this great book in the hopes that people won't find the truth! Too late David... the tidal wave is swelling!

Learn what those 10 maxims of commerce law are and you'll realize how this world works. This book verified EVERYTHING I have already re-searched AND solidified my comprehension of contracts. If you don't learn the things from this book, then you'll stay a slave to the system. Don't let that IRS scary letter that is just an over glorified contract scare you.Need some ammo for your gun?18 U.S. Code § 241 - Conspiracy against rights;18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law;18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason;42 U.S. Code § 1983 - Civil action for deprivation of rights;42 U.S. Code § 1985 - Conspiracy to interfere with civil rights;42 U.S. Code § 1986 - Action for neglect to prevent;28 U.S. Code § 454 - Practice of law by justices and judges;28 U.S. Code § 455 - Disqualification of justice, judge, or magistrate judge

David Robinson did a great job on explaining parts of commercial law. I'm happy that I have it my library. This book will certainly open your eyes on the unlawful practices of the IRS!

It's a good book worthwhile addition to the personal library. However it leaves a lot of questions hanging. Like it talks about what needs to be done but very little on how to do it in details.

A must read for every American!Think you are American? Think again. Id bet your a United States citizen, a federal employee who has no clue of this let alone that he has no constitutional rights.Learn the game! Be who our fore fathers fought for! Not a corporate slave citizen. Be free, regain your constitutional rights and your natural god given rights back! This book is a doorway to true freedom and enlightenment to what is so wrong with the world and our country!

Having a little knowledge of the UCC, it cleared up some of the questions that I had. A great book for those that are trying to understand the situation that WE THE PEOPLE ARE REALLY IN.

Before I bought this book, I saw two extreme reviews, 'pretty darn good' and 'not even close'. Here's what I concluded, if you're in the courtroom for something you've already done, too late. However, if you're not in the courtroom, their are things you can do about it.Their are people who will harass you, and look like they're doing it legally, but if you know the rules, you can do something about it. For instance, when you sign a title deed on your property, because your solicitor told you to do so, what has actually happened is you have deeded your land away, and must pay land tax or rates to use it. Deed in a legal dictionary means to give it away. The solicitor has solicited you to do it. And so if you don't pay the fee, tough, you already signed. Now this example is in 'the Matrix as it is', and possibly 'Hardcore Redemption in law', although it explains it in different terms. The reason deeds exist, is because contracts are prominent. And contracts mean that both sides get something out of the deal. So they came up with deeds to say, if someone wants to give something away, they sign a deed saying they give it away with nothing in return. So this is what it means to get yourself sorted before court. One of the most helpful things I learnt was details about filing an affidavit. You can file an affidavit against someone, and if they don't dispute it within 30 days, then what you've said about them stands as truth, and they owe what you've said they owe. If they dispute it, then it goes to court. Either way what they've done can become public. So if they don't want it to be made public, well they should just pay up quickly. Also, this book is very chronological, in some of his other books, it covers just a piece of the puzzle, but this seems to have everything you need to know about fighting back in a legal way. The other advice would be something like, don't sign what you shouldn't, make sure you know the legal ramifications first, and people use duress to get you to sign something you shouldn't have. I know their's plenty of other things, but those are the things that stand out to me.

This is amazing, just in the knowledge of it!.. Get it while you can. Then read it and go back and watch the "Matrix" movies. This is where we are, a 'slave fictional' pod in a sea of 'money code'. The code that is the Matrix is ' Federal Reserve Currency', get it 'currency' is a river of code.

Women Talking, by Miriam Toews

Review

"Miriam Toews is wickedly funny and fearlessly honest… She is an artist of escape; she always finds a way for her characters, trapped by circumstance, to liberate themselves." - The New Yorker"The book is a feminist manifesto that delicately unwraps the horror, but also bubbles with the love and wry humor that has endeared Toews to readers." - The New York Times"A painful, thought-provoking, strangely lovely gem rendered broadly relevant by our #MeToo moment....At the heart of Women Talking lies the question of how women can create a better world for themselves and for those they love amid a culture of male sexual violence, the continued power of patriarchy, their own differences, and the limits of language itself. It’s a question that resonates across the globe today, and in answering it, we could do much worse than to start with the manifesto of the women of Molotschna: “We want our children to be safe . . . We want to be steadfast in our faith. We want to think." - The Boston Globe"An astonishment, a volcano of a novel with slowly and furiously mounting pressures of anguish and love and rage. No other book I've read in the past year has spoken so lucidly about our current moment, and yet none has felt as timeless; the always-wondrous Miriam Toews has written a book as close to a Greek tragedy as a contemporary Western novelist can come." - Lauren Groff, author of FATES AND FURIES and FLORIDA"The award-winning novelist returns with what may be her most experimental work yet, giving voice to eight women as they grapple with the trauma and power of patriarchy." - Entertainment Weekly, “50 Most Anticipated Books of 2019”"I am in awe of this novel. In Toews's brilliant design, eight women in a Mennonite hayloft manage to lay bare the rancid global root system of patriarchy. Their story is terrifying, joyful, gruesome, and magnetic. What a reckoning--and what a gift." - Leni Zumas, author of RED CLOCKS"I would follow the Canadian author anywhere she leads ― this time to a remote Mennonite colony in Bolivia where the women have been subjected to brutal attacks in the night first believed to be the work of demons. When they discover the atrocities were committed by men in their community, the women ― who cannot read or write and require the group’s schoolteacher to write down their conversations ― must decide whether they will leave, exiting the only world they’ve known, or remain." - Huffington Post, "61 Books We're Looking Forward to Reading in 2019""This stark, masterful story takes a timely look at ideas of justice and agency." - Esquire, The Best Books to Read This Spring"One of the most exciting novels coming out this year." - LitHub, "Most Anticipated Books of 2019""Sharp and devastating… a testament to the power of women’s collective voices." - Buzzfeed"Toews nimbly navigates this complicated story, laden with relevant political overtones, offering a scathing condemnation of the patriarchy, as well as a sense of hope for a future run by those who won’t stay silent about the horrors around them." - Nylon, "50 Books You'll Want to Read in 2019""A flawless, ferocious work of art. I have yet to read a more scathing indictment of patriarchal violence, or a more illuminating quest to comprehend the most vital contours of the human experience: what is agency, what is meaning, what is justice, what is love. This is the kind of novel that changes you. Get ready." - Laura van den Berg, author of THE THIRD HOTEL"Miriam Toews has written a modern classic as real and warm and terrifying as a pail of fresh blood. It's a perfect work of art that will leave you ill with awe." - Catherine Lacey, author of THE ANSWERS and NOBODY IS EVER MISSING"[A] sharp blade of a novel . . . Toews’ knowing wit and grasp of dire subjects align her with Margaret Atwood, while her novel’s slicing concision and nearly Socratic dialogue has the impact of a courtroom drama or a Greek tragedy." - Booklist, Starred Review"Powerful . . . This is an inspiring and unforgettable novel." - Publishers Weekly, Starred Review"An exquisite critique of patriarchal culture . . . riveting and revelatory . . . Stunningly original and altogether arresting." - Kirkus Reviews, starred review"Unforgettable." - PureWow"Women Talking wants another world to be possible, and in the re-scripting of reality into fiction, attempts to imagine it where it has not yet grown of its own volition . . . The novel reminds us how difficult it is to know how to live, forgive others or ourselves, seek justice, or know freedom. No matter the depth of their solidarity, we can imagine that each individual will undoubtedly spend a lifetime coming to their own answers, seeking knowledge with their own hard-won words. But we can hope that the common questions asked by women talking, by Women Talking--their listening, their anger and love, their sometimes vastly differing conclusions--might offer a further way of seeing and finally choosing." - Madeleine Thien, author of DO NOT SAY WE HAVE NOTHING, Literary Review of Canada"WOMEN TALKING is one of the most anticipated books of the year for a reason. The story (based on true events) focuses on eight Mennonite women who ― after being repeatedly drugged and attacked by a group of men in their community ― meet in secret and decide how to reclaim their lives not just for their own future, but also for their daughters." - Woman’s Day, Best Fiction Books of 2019

This book was no fabulous read, was definitely hoping for more and the ending was disappointing. Each for their own.

I loved the story, and Toew’s straight forward, compelling presentation of characters.

Really could not get into it

This is a fictionalized account of a real-life occurrence."Between 2005 and 2009, in a remote religious Mennonite colony, over a hundred girls and women were knocked unconscious and raped, often repeatedly, by what many thought were ghosts or demons, as a punishment for their sins." As it turned out, 8 men from the colony were responsible for these attacks, and they were arrested and sent to prison for their crimes. But some of the girls that attacked were as young as three, and, as can be imagined, sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and PTSD were rampant. This book tells us how 8 fictional women meet together in a hayloft, and how they plan to protect themselves and their children by leaving the colony. The book is written as minutes of the meetings that were held in that hayloft. None of the 8 women could read, so they recruited a man to do the recording for them. The book unfolds as August Epp, who is a teacher in the colony, begins to fully understand what these women have been putting up with for many years. It's a story of survival and a story of women taking back their power over their own destinies. It's a difficult book to read, but it's an affirmation of the strength of women and also a testimonial to their determination to do whatever it takes to save their children and grandchildren. Miriam Toews does a masterful job of putting this down in writing, and with her stark prose, and her wonderful grasp of getting to the main issue, this book is a must-read for women today. The "me-too" society has brought all this to the forefront these days, so the book is timely and appropriate.

It was so interesting to read about women, with such rich vocabularies, yet unable to read or write. It was reminiscent of cultures with oral histories. I yearn for a sequel.

Overgrown is a compelling and visually engaging testament that gardens and gardening informed by horticulture and design are central activities of landscape architecture. This provocative, important, and original book is required reading for landscape architects and for all who care about plants and design.―Anne Whiston Spirn, author of The Language of LandscapeRooted deeply in history and practice, this erudite study addresses courageously the enduring tension between gardening and design. A major book.―John Stilgoe, Robert and Lois Orchard Professor in the History of Landscape Development, Graduate School of Design, Harvard University; author of What Is Landscape?
