This set includes the trilogy, along with the extra book titled, "Four". I actually recommend reading Four first. It's the comets set. My 13 year old triplet boys started reading this series in school. They couldn't stop talking about it, so I bought this series for them, and I even read it myself. It's very, very good. The movie is pretty good too; although, the books are a lot more detailed. I highly recommend this series. I would caution for younger readers as the two main characters have some heated moments. Nothing that heavy, but on the line. I wouldn't want my 8 year old reading something like that. I hope this review has been helpful for the parents out there. All in all.. Definitely a great series! A Must Read!

First off, I have to admit that it is difficult for me to rate this book without rating the series as a whole, so that is what I am going to do. It turns out I cannot review this series without comparing it to Hunger Games.There is a great deal of similarity between this series and Hunger Games. Teenage coming-of-age adventure story in a post-apocalyptic dystopian society. I could go further into the premise, but it really does not make much sense outside the context of the book.Again, like Hunger Games, I found the first book gripping and devoured it quickly. The second book did a good job of keeping up that pace.Then the third book comes up, and, once again like Hunger Games, it takes the "Us vs. Them" story and throws in "oh look, These Guys Too! Bet you didn't see THAT coming!" plot hook, and things go off the rails for me. The first two books seem to be building your hope for the characters and the world they live in and the ability for them to make the world better. Then they expand the world, and the third book goes about crushing your hopes of a happy ending.While reading the first two books, I was a little bummed that it would be over in three. By the time I was about a quarter through the third book, I was ready for it to be done. I was looking forward to Four during the first two books. After reading the third, I don't have any real interest in reading Four anymore.The real world does not have happy endings for everyone, but this isn't really about happy endings. It is more about building up these characters to great heights with the implication that they will usher in a new age. Then, it turns out in the end they are a cog in a machine in the end. Important, sure, but used to an end just the same. I would actually rate the first two books at five stars, but the third book is such a letdown that it brings down the whole series for me, and this book is useless without the other two. If you read Hunger Games and loved it, this scratches the same itch. In the end, I didn't hate it, but it lost a lot of luster quickly in the end.

I have to start by saying that watching the Divergent movie made me want to read the book. I really enjoyed the movie and I thought for sure there was more in the book. Movie goers didn’t miss as much as I had hoped.Beatrice is about to take the test that will determine which of the five factions she will go into for the rest of her life. The five factions are: Candor (the honest), Amity (the peaceful), Erudite (the intelligent), Dauntless (the brave) and Abnegation (the selfless). Each of the factions carries out certain job throughout the city. Those without factions do all the dirty work and have no rights in society. Born into Abnegation, everyone thinks she will stay in. On the day of the test, Beatrice learns she is Divergent. Fitting into not just one, but many factions. She chooses Dauntless and is told to keep her Divergent identity secret. In dauntless Beatrice renames herself Tris, and she is tested to determine who she really is. Her failure could leave her factionless. Her testing will reveal that she is divergent if she isn’t careful. Being divergent might just get her killed.I can’t believe how spot on the movie was. I could completely picture the scenes while I read this book. There were only a few details left out of the movie Divergent. This book was really addictive. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I couldn’t stop reading the story. There were a few interactions left out and we get a more in depth look at Tris’ struggle to leave Abnegation and her whole family behind. The development of her relationship to Four made much more sense in the book and he was instrumental in the end. We also get more of an explanation of Tris’ fears and why Four was so different from his peers when he graduated.I really enjoyed the character building, getting to know her friends and her fears. The author is able to draw in the reader right from the start. The location of this story is a dytopian Chicago. I liked the gradual world building in this story. The whole society is cut off from the outside. The idea that people are either of 5 personalities was really problematic for divergents because they have characteristics from more than one. The struggle to pick just one thing for the rest of your life is something a lot of young adults can probably relate to as they make career choices, so this story may feel close to home.

The artwork is outstanding, and the mix of Spanish words makes it fun for bi-lingual children and educational for all. However, the audience matters. The story line is simple enough to understand---on the surface a suspenseful animal adventure---but just under the surface it deals with a serious & heartbreaking subject. It almost misses the point if the comparison is not made with the human plight of illegal migrants (with possible political implications in a classroom setting). I felt my 1st grade class would not be the appropriate place to read it. For children dealing with migrant issues, it should resonate and provoke sympathy.

Kind of intense but good to start a discussion about migration. Great illustrations.

Love this book about Pancho Rabbit's journey to find his father across the border; read it to my grandchildren and started an educational (for me and them) discussion about immigration. I'm all for anything that opens up our eyes to what is going on in this world, especially told from the perspective of an immigrant.

Excellent conversation starter on migration and featuring lovely artwork very reminiscent of traditional Aztec aesthetics.

I truly enjoyed this story. I purchased it to share with my students because I thought they might relate to it. I will be honest, I haven't shared it. I'm not ready to field questions or hear REAL LIFE connections to the story. A little cowardly, I know. My kiddos have read 3 other Duncan Tonatiuh books and have enjoyed them.

I ordered this book as a gift for a dear friend whose children have grown up with the reality of a frequently absent parent. My hope was that it would help to open up discussion and understanding. I have just received the following note from my friend: "...I just read to the little ones the book you gave them. It is so nice to see someone highlighting the problems that so many face. I know over the years we have struggled with the breaking up of our family so half of us can go "al Norte" to work, even on an airplane it is so hard to leave behind the ones not lucky enough to have visas. The kids were asking so many questions. We, as a family talk a lot about immigration issues and they know about it first hand because of our years of trying to "get Papa's papers". The train ride in the book touched them because they talk so much about the men and women asking for money or food when we cross the train tracks. I loved the explanation at the end. My little girl really started putting it together at that point and asking more profound questions. I am sure it will be in the "every night" pile. Thanks again for this special book."

A tale for young listeners which is frank about exploitation which can occur in border crossing but manages to keep the young rabbit safe in the end, as appropriate for the audience. The book filled a gap for our church library.

I appreciated how the animals were used to tell of a scary and true story. This can lead into a bigger class group discussion so children can understand that there atwo sides to every story and that if immigration were easier for Mexicans to come and go in the U.S. there would be less separation of families and that Mexicans just want to earn a living and go back home to their families for the most part. Not all Mexicans are part of Cartel but a lot of them are used by the Cartel and that can be a scary thing for young children to have to go through with their families. This book touches on the subject in a very courteous and gentle manner that can be understood by most students/children. A touch subject to be confronted in an appropriate manner.

My 14 year old daughter is a beautiful little nerd. She loves math and as a father daughter hobby, for the past month, since we've had this book, we spend time either at coffee shops or the meeting rooms at my office doing math together. We're through about 140 pages of the book now and I look forward to every single moment I spend together with my little girl solving problem by problem.To be honest, we don't really read much of the text, we simply use the problems and examples. The examples are so well written that we often don't need to do anything more to learn a new topic. The rate of progression is absolutely perfect. In the rare cases where we can't solve a problem because we're just not smart enough, we can peek at the answer which generally does a great job providing step by step detail. When that fails, we use Wolfram Alpha. When that fails, we knock on the door of a physcist baring a free dinner for him.I have purchased Algebra I for Dummies Workbook, Algebra II for Dummies Workbook and Geometry for Dummies Workbook. I have already decided that Trigonometry for Dummies Workbook, Precalc for Dummies Workbook and Calculus for Dummies Workbook will be in our next shipment.I expect that we'll finish this book in a few weeks. I don't think we'll need more than a few weeks for the Geometry for Dummies Workbook. Algebra II is a little intimidating, but we can't wait to eventually get to matrices.Whatever Mary Jane Sterling is being paid, it's not enough. This series is an absolute work of art.P.S. - Warning... I am a software developer/computer scientist. I am relearning what I forgot. If you are buying these books to help your kids, I recommend also getting a good text book with more thorough explainations of topics. I also recommend buying the full Wolfram Alpha app for your phone and learning how to use it.

I'm on chapter 3.... this is a big deal because I HATE math... but here I am, understanding it.I failed grade 9 math, barely made it through gr. 10.... never took math again ....it's been 15 years since I tried to understand this stuff and I finally am sorta getting it all. buy this book.

I have no argument with the content of the book. However, they advertise practice problems online and supply a PIN number. I challenge any reasonably intelligent and logical person to go to their web page and find out how to access these problem. I created an account and spent about 45 minutes trying to activate the online materials and had no success whatsoever. Sucks bigtime. Maybe I am a dummy, but I don't think so.

Got two of these...one for my Grandson, who had to take this in Summer school, and one for me. I give him weekly assignments and do them as well, so if he has any questions, we can review each weekend.Been a long time since I divided polynomials, but we are enjoying. Very good explanations, examples and quizzes...even my Grandson thinks it is well done. Highly recommend for any student having algebra issues.

I got this workbook to supplement a High School Algebra-1 textbook with additional problems and i'm glad i did... there are numerous examples of each problem with the solution completely worked out. There are even additional notes point out the important steps. This book has proven to be more than just a collection of problems. The material follows the outline of my textbook... which means i don't have to jump all over the place looking for examples to match similar problem in my textbook. I use it all the time and couldn't be happier! The "for Dummies" title is a lil'bit misleading though... the problems are not dumbed down. They are very similar to the examples in our school's textbook.

My son almost finished this book on his own before taking an accuplacer test. He says he is able understand it. Occasionally he gets stack on something but then he is able to figure out the problem. He says the book is to the point. We had gotten a couple different books before this one, and he didn't like those.

This is the ONLY Kindle eBook I have ever returned; I felt the content was not worthy of even a few dollars as in my opinion I've read more in-depth information on free websites or even other book descriptions. This is my personal opinion, you may love it - I'm an IT Manager with over 30 years experience so perhaps I'm too demanding.

I have more than 15 years experience in I.T Systems and Business Management but for the last 5 years I was doing mainly hardware repair for both elementary and secondary schools when a new manager was assigned to the department. Every meeting held during the transition period, the new manager spoke about the I.T Department being compliant to the ITIL Framework. I had never heard of ITIL before but was ready to prove myself as a valuable team player. I bought two books on ITIL, ITIL For Beginners and a study guide to help prepare me to take the certification exam. However I got this book in my hands first. After reading the first two chapters only, I was able to produce a service operation plan for the department linking service functions and service processes to roles and actual responsibilities to staff members. I may be an extreme case because of all my prior experience in both business and I.T. and it is said that ITIL teaches I.T Professionals to think like businessmen. I call ITIL common sense for I.T Professionals and even without taking the certification exam as yet I am already feeling that this is one of the best books that I have ever bought. If you are serious about functioning in an ITIL compliant I.T environment buy this book, you would be glad that you did.

Perhaps it's not totally the publisher's fault, but this is the driest subject material possible. I found that reviewing the material did not make me feel like I understood the subject matter, to the extent that it was like listening to a 2.5 hour long syllabus for a college course.

I can recommend this book, since the concepts and the definitions are well explained to introduce you to ITIL, don't expect for deep explanations or detailed analysis, this is not the goal of this book. Is the best point to start if you are trying to start to path to ITIL certifications.

Provides clear explanations of ITIL terms and concepts. A good place to start. Recommended reading for experienced IT professionals who unfamiliar with ITIL.

I highly recommend reading this book before taking an ITIL Certification class and/or test. It will give you a break down and understanding of all 5 Life Cycle Stages. It really helped understand all life cycle stages and gave me a head start and expectation of what the ITIL Foundation class was going to cover. I also found the practice exams very helpful.
