I've heard about this book for years. I knew its reputation and the fact that anyone working in any leadership role is expected to know it by heart. I read it and was left with the impression that this might be valuable to understand where some people are coming from, but more so I was left with the impression that the value is much less in today's business climate than when Jack ran GE. I see too many leaders applying some of Jack's tactics while leaving out others that are really needed to make the applied tactics make sense.

How do you kill the zeal that a young, aspiring, future business leader has with regard to arguably one of the strongest force in American commerce in the past 30 years? You give them Slater's biography on Jack Welch. Jack Welch's accomplishments are not to be diminished by the gosh, lavish, effusive ... style of Slater. Readers may be able to wade through the Jack-this, Jack-that approach that Slater employs to really find significant kernels of what Welch's contribution to corporate/business thought has been. It is for this reason alone that I do find some value in this book. This book fails on all three measures. Walsh shares no secret insights -- he only discusses his introduction of a number of standard business practices to GE. This include 6-Sigma, downsizing, A-B-C rating of managers, etc. -- The usual mix of management science, art and business fad typical in pop management books. And even the discussions of how these management tools were implemented at GE is filled with extrainious details about the meetings at which these policies were introduced and other non-value added story telling. This only leads me to believe that it was added as filler to get the page count up to the size required for a book.For all of Jack Welsh's insistence that his business units be 1st or 2nd in a market it is pure hypocrisy for him to be publishing this book. Your time and money is better spent reading Peter Drucker.

I never picked up a copy of this wonderous guide when it was published. There were a few mistakes I made last decade, not buying this book was one of them.There is not much storyline given away here. Mostly background info regarding the Cardassians, Bajorans and the Federation. Deep Space Nine was the best "Star Trek" series, in my humble opinion. This guide is useful to those who wish to write about the series of the future, as well as daydreamers like myself. The thrill of walking down every corridor, knowing the details of Quark's bar and Ops...It is all like dream, now that it is over. I never watched the original broadcast in the 1990s. What a loss on my behalf. Now in the age of hopelessly dull reality T.V., what a better way to pass the time than watching the epic unfold on DVD. Though a little overpriced, to an avid fan like myself, worth every penny! Make sure you have a copy of this manual sitting close by!

This was basically bought after I was doing research for a Runabout model kit. I had never seen it in the bookstores when it was originally released.What a step up from the Star Trek TNG Technical manual. Lots of colour illustrations and just as much detail. There was most of the infomation I needed for the Runabout as well as an extensive section on the Defiant. Of course there are lots of detail on the station as well.Be warned a lot of the content is Trek technobable, but it's still fun to browse on a rainy day.Well worth getting getting for a Trek buff or modeller. What a pity we'll probably never see a similiar book for either Voyager or Enterprise.

The Star Trek DS9 Tech Manual is a fascinating read for any Star Trek fan, or fan of the show. DS9 was a whole new direction and this book really brings it to life, with some very cool bonuses about the USS Defiant and other Starfleet vehicles featured on the show during all 7 seasons.

This is a must own for anyone who has ever needed to know why something works the way it does in Star Trek. This covers almost everything you can imagine in how Deep Space Nine and space craft work. If it isn't covered in this book it is covered in the TNG Tech Manual. If you write Fan Fiction, play a character in a Trek RPG, or operate a Trek Website You will treat the Tech Manuals as your gospal in Trek technology. Other good books are out there, but they don't compete with this book.The tech isn't much different in manner from the TNG Tech Manual, but the images in this, the DS9, manual are far superior. All Trek Geeks (come on, fess up) need this book.

I just thought I'd put out there that this book does contain a few plot spoilers for DS9. I got it so I could more fully geek-out as I go through the series on Netflix, expecting it to pretty much stick with technical matters (which it does, overall), but I immediately read a huge plot development that I wish I didn't know.Otherwise it's a good companion to the show. The extensive details and explanations do add to the sense of it being a real place. You have to be into reading tedious, quasi-scientific details of something that isn't even real, of course.I was a little disappointed with the pictures. They're rendered in a tepid cg and don't have enough linearity or contrast to be very 'readable', like you would want from technical drawings. The images inside the book are not as clear as those on the cover. There also aren't nearly as many as I would like, compared to all the long, wordy descriptions. Having said all that, I would still recommend the book to any fans of DS9.

This book was brand new. But the content was impossible to get through. I have alll of the manuals and this is the only one i couldnt finish

Reznek begins by asking whether the excuses for a criminal act are factual, that is, whether the offender suffers from an illness that renders him incapable of controlling his actions; or whether, they are normative in that there are circumstances in which a man can be excused from criminal conduct. In the first instance, the question is best answered by psychiatrists, and in the second, by the jury, presumably, the point is that social norms are best decided by the representatives of society. Can the second instance question be answered by a judge? Can it not be better answered by the legislature which should have a better gauge on the public pulse than a single judge unaccountable to no one? Accepting that a person can be morally excused if he has made every effort to control his actions but failed, Reznek enquires into the circumstances and criteria upon which we determine when a person has lost his self-control; and also to distinguish between an inability to control and a refusal to control.This book covers a very wide field and takes into account matters of psychiatry, law, and philosophy. In the area of jurisprudence, the author discusses the defences of insanity (in the varied ways in which that defence has been defined) and automatism, and the relationship between mental defences, that is, defences that depended on a state of mind that blots out mental culpability, and the general legal defence of an absence of mens rea, that is, the absence of the requisite mental state of mind that accompanies an act, rendering that act criminal.In the editorial description of the book, it was stated that Reznek proposes a third alternative to the traditional excuses for an offender, namely, ignorance and compulsion; and that third excuse was the character transformation of the offender, changing him from a good person into an evil one. If that was a major thesis of the author (and I do not think that it was) then it would be fair to say that it was not fully developed. The admirable study that preceded the last few pages in which the issue of a change in character was discussed was not sufficiently linked to the theory to support it. On the whole, however, this is a marvelous book for the layman (it was written with little professional jargon in spite of the wide field of diverse professional subjects) as well as the professional, particularly the lawyer and psychiatrist. It compels us to think hard and deep about what it means to be insane, and whether insanity should be an excuse for crime. The moral ambiguities of the many case studies are a good enough reason to read this book. There is a great deal of information with excellent recipes to choose from. There could be more information to support claims for proper nutritional balance. I've used this more as supplementary material to other books that are more in depth on feline nutrition, but I would not recommend to be a single source on the topic.

I have to say the author is very up front with the fact that making your own cat food can be much more expensive than making your own. Several high quality commercial products are listed and I am gratified to see my choice listed. What a cat needs in homemade food is first a lesson in nutrition, then where you can get all the vitamins not naturally in the homemade food. No resources are given. The on to cautions about what not to feed your cat. Finally, the recipes. I'm guessing cats have been known to eat these recipes. I agree with the author: very expensive to make cat food! However, this book also includes treats, so time spent reading this is not wasted. Unless you are incredibly wealthy and have the ultimate in pure bred cat, get a high quality premade prodect.

Very helpful suggestions and recipes for preparing food for the cats. Reminders on what cats can't eat...

As an avid follower of Kate's style and influence, I really was excited when I saw this book about to be released on Amazon so I preordered it. It came today and I regret that it is near worthless unless you are an absolute beginner when it comes to Kate Middleton's style. If you read What Kate Wore or if you have even a moderate amount of knowledge on her wardrobe then this book has little to offer. Many of the photos are horrible in quality - several look as though they were taken in a circus mirror - blurry and distorted in order to be stretched to fit the space on the page. This is a poorly constructed book containing only superficial information that can easily be found online for free - I had to laugh when I saw the guide to Kate's favorite designers in the back since many bloggers with more eloquent writing styles have already compiled this online for their readers for free and with clickable links. This book appears to merely be riding the "Kate Effect", rehashing basic facts and not adding anything new to the "Kate's Style" dialogue. Very disappointed...

I just got the book & skimed through it. It one of the best books on Kate's fashion, make up, hair, etc. out there. It doesn't get into the detail of Kate's journey to become Will's wife like Kate Style by Orme does. It just focuses on the fashion mostly after the engagement & wedding. They just touch on the engagement & wedding a little. Even talk about some of her early pregnancy choices and a nod to Pippa too. This is the most update book focusing on her fashion choices only-outside of a few magazines like People-I have seen so far. If your a Kate chaser like me, you already have Kate Style by Orme & Kate Style Princess By Cywinski in your collection. I would highly advise adding this one. Pictures(clear & glossy-you see every detail) & details-a whole index is focused on her outfits & accessories .There are tips where you can find look-alike items. This book is so worth the price! Definitely a collector's item!I also want to add that there are some pictures that I have not seen. I am not into the blogs or the fan pages as others who follow Kate's every move closely. Their views are different than mine as far as this book is concern. I do want to mention "The Cecile" dress by Erdem Moralioglu. I got a identical copy of it from ASOS Cruve. Yes, I am a big girl on a budget who tries to get some of Kate's style in clothing & accessories whenever possible. ASOS dress ran about $70.00 from their U.S. site. I was informed By Ashley Falcon(a writer for People Style Watch's Plus Size Style. Yes, she sometimes does answer fan questions/e-mails.) where to find some plus sizes in Kate's style. Another place she mentioned to look is Eloquii by The Limited. It has a similar dress(shorter sleeves) looking like the Issa's "Sapphire" dress worn on the engagement announcement. I paid about $50.00 for it. However @ this writing,this store SEEMED to be going out of business. Do check it out anyways! Compared to Kate's choice, it came at a reasonable price. ASOS is brought up in the book as a maternity selection. I wouldn't knock all of this book's resources that it gives. I still say it's worth getting.

I have only good words about this book. It is well written by someone who knows a lot about fashion, has good taste and understands what piece of clothing works for what reason. It also has excellent research done on the pieces that Kate wore, which are actually within reach for a lot of us, I find that pretty amazing.The only info it's missing is for the Australian safari-style brown hat (outfit 14 on page 70) which is part of one of my favorite outfits. For some reason they list it as a hat "she has owned for many years and often wears on country strolls" - nothing more. The hat is from one of Kate's favorite companies where she buys a lot of her clothes and which is called Really Wild Clothing, Co.But that's a small detail. I'm still giving it five stars. I have learned a lot about putting together a nice, clean-lines looking, chic outfit from this book. I strongly recommend it.

If you're interested in Duchess Kate's style, this book is a great introduction. The photos are excellent, and the author breaks down Kate's sartorial choices piece by piece, with great explanations of why the Duchess probably chose each item. My favorite parts are the little "fashion insider secrets" the author points out such as maple leaf in the hat Kate chose to wear to Canada (the maple leaf is the symbol of Canada). I don't want to dress exactly like the Duchess, but I do like knowing more about how she choosing to honor situations with her apparel/accessories. This book is well laid-out and informative, and I highly recommend it if you are interested in finding out more about dressing appropriately and with style for a variety of occasions.

Love this book. Lots of colorful pictures of Kate wearing fabulous styles and also detailed photos of some of her shoes, hats, purses, and jewelry. I enjoyed reading the backstory of some of her famous outfits and little insider tidbits I didn't know. I don't think anyone can perfectly match her style and grace but there are wonderful tips on how to shop and style your wardrobe to resemble Kate's...for less money. In the back is an index of designers, shops, and products she loves. Highly recommended for any fashion, Kate, or royal fan.

I purchased this book as I have always admired the way that the Duchess of Cambridge has presented herself to the public. This book is really well put together. There is a lot of great info about her clothes but best of all is the style tips given so that anyone can look as stylish as Kate does!I have loaned this book to several friends and they are also suitably impressed with the info supplied in the book.A great buy!

I chose this book because I loved the look of the cover, and I was hoping the book would be like the cover. The book inside is like the cover plus more. It has the beautiful pictures, but it also has text about different clothing, accessories like hats, purses, and jewelry. I love this book. Anyone who is interested in Kate Middleton I think would love this book.
