Gosh, I don't even know where to start. I loved the first book in this series and recommended it to my friends. The second book was funny, but the idea lost its originality (obviously sequels usually stink). The third and fourth book started going downhill from story line to character (lack) development and the constant cussing and immature behavior of the "Queen".Now this 5th book seriously TANKS. I have no idea why Davidson insists on making the lead character whiney, annoying, unreasonable, selfish, rude, disrespectful and haughty. It is just horrid and more frightening than the thought of vampires living among us. The relationships aren't quite developed and there are a lot of characters that are still stuck in limbo with nothing new to revive them since their introduction in the first or second book.I also dislike the way the lead character (Elizabeth/Betsy/Queen) treats everyone around her. She is ruthlessly selfish and has an "I don't care" attitude throughout the books. No one really stands up to her and she continues to blindly stumble through situations without EVER learning her lesson. I know Davidson is trying to make "Elizabeth/Betsy" be a fun loving character, but she misses the point of compassion and politeness.I am also really sick of all the cussing and rude remarks and the constant use of "uncool" words like: "pal", "oh boy", and "cutie". What? I thought she was supposed to be a cool 30 something vampire not some house mom from Fresno. Either way, the dialogue is hard to work through and Betsy seems to think the weight of the world is on her selfish shoulders and gives the reader dose after miserable dose of negative dialogue. She never gives her friends and lover a benefit of a doubt and then ends up in stupid situations that really aren't THAT entertaining - even though they're meant to be.Sadly, this is the last book I'm waisting time on. I cannot torture myself any longer. I want to be a fan, but I just can't wrap around a negative, cussing, sassy brat character. Just can't do it.

MaryJanice Davidson has a uniquely humorous voice, which makes her the only romance author out there from whom I will eagerly purchase a book. The "Queen Betsy" series is one of my favorites in one of my favorite genres - the "silly vampire" books. In this, the 5th outing for the unlikely vampire queen, Betsy (from Minneapolis), we find Betsy a few days from her 31st birthday, which will also be one year from the day she was killed by being hit by an Aztek (what a plebian way to go!) and awoke as a vampire - horrified to find that The Ant (as she calls her stepmother) had dressed her for her funeral in absolutely dreadful shoes.Betsy is planning for her non-existent Surprise Birthday Party (which she doesn't want), as well as the wedding to her Vampire King Eric Sinclair, which is scheduled for three months away. Additionally, some hot-shot vampire big-wigs from Europe are showing up. To complicate matters, Sophie (a vampire friend of Betsy's) wishes to "turn" her boyfriend Liam, which leaves Betsy rather discombobulated. Until Betsy learns her best friend, Jessica, has myeloma, whereupon she finds herself pondering the same course of action for her friend. That is, of course, if she changes her mind about never drinking blood again. Then, when Sophie and Liam run up against the big shot European vampires - that's when things really hit the fan, because one of the European contingent is the vampire who killed Sophie and turned her into a vampire and she is out for blood. What's a benevolent vampire queen to do?Written with an always wry and witty outlook on life, the Betsy books are truly a terrific way to relax and enjoy a nice evening with a cup of tea. Do yourself a favor, pick up a couple and have a few laughs with Betsy!

I was disappointed by this entry in Mary Janice Davidson's Undead series. Undead and Unpopular lacks any real tension. It suffers from too much exposition and dialog. They are talking in the kitchen. They are talking in the parlor. They are talking in the bedroom. There really didn't seem to be much actual action at all. The menace implied by the European vampires never really seemed all that menacing. When I got to the end of the book I had to go back and check. I couldn't find a real climax to any of the action. I think that's the point. The action in this book was sorely missing. Betsy's self-centered whining is starting to get old, and there seemed to be a chapter I missed somewhere along the line. Probably some short story in an anthology. I dislike when authors assume you'll read every anthology they contribute to.

I do not understand the title . Nevertheless, It was an enjoyable read. The character development is spot on and this series continues to be unpredictable . Now I am looking forward to the next installment .

This is a fantastic little vampire tale based in the Twin Cities area. I love reading the series and have now bought them here to read again and again. Expect elicit sexual discussion and vampire blood sucking yarns, but it is hilarious, fun and just a great read!

Even though I am a guy, I really enjoy MaryJanice Davidson' books. Her characters have attitude, her story lines are filled with humor AND they keep you guessing as to "What will happen next".I can't say enough GOOD about these books, (and their author). I've purchased and read all the Mermaid and Undead series. In fact, on multiple times I've sat up all night just to finish a book.HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This is a review of Control Your Retirement Destiny: I’m glad I spent the money for the book. I also had the Kindle version but it was hard to follow the text and compare to the charts. Most of it was understandable but I’m no mathemetician and some went over my head. What she did do was make me realize that retirement isn’t leave your job and start withdrawing money. She helps you plan and, at the very least, gives you some information to prepare you to talk to a financial advisor. I’ve been recommending this to all my boomer friends.

Dana gives the reader all the information necessary to make an informed decision about when to draw SS. She backs up her strategy by providing real life examples alone with the math and good common sense reasoning. A must for anyone nearing retirement.

Wow, What a down to earth explanation of how Social Security works...Dana shows us how this book, that cost a few dollars, can help us receive thousands. Any of our employees that request Social Security Sense will receive one promptly. rk

Clear, concise, informative review of today's' Social Security environment. I liked the well thought out examples of various retirement scenarios.

Not for someone 61 years old. If older maybe, but not for people born in 1955.

While I read on a variety topics, I rarely post reviews. I found Social Security Sense very well written and a must read for anyone in the 50s or 60s or doing financial planning and taking SS into account. The topics covered were very insightful and loved the examples provided to illustrate the points made. This book is a very easy read and simplifies many complexities for anyone approaching SS. I highly recommend Social Security Sense!

I have read a good deal of information on the subject and this book is by far the most helpful I have read. I like the way Dana breaks it down in segments that you can follow. After reading this I am sure that many people are still leaving money on the table when they retire. It can be used as a study guide for those that have options

Well written and easy to apply strategies. I assign it as required reading for the MBA personal finance course I teach.

Weinberg and Bealer have produced a detailed, well-written, and engaging work on the natural and cultural history of the three caffeinated beverages - coffee, tea and chocolate - that radically changed European dietary habits and customs beginning in the seventeenth century. Unlike most popular histories of these commodities, Weinberg and Bealer's book documents its sources well and distinguishes between legend and reliably documented fact. This is a hybrid book. Parts 1-3 offer a detailed cultural and economic history of the three drinks. There is some repetition in these sections, and the serious student of the history of any one of these beverages will be flipping back and forth in order to get a unified chronological narrative. To the authors' credit, however, the histories of coffee, tea, and chocolate are so complex and so interrelated that any author would be hard-pressed to do much better.Parts 4 and 5 offer a detailed account of the botanical and chemical characteristics of the three plants, and present a summary of the latest research on the effect of caffeine on the human body. Throughout, the evolution of Europeans' (and later Americans') understanding of the nature of caffeine is treated with flair and nuance. This is one of the best histories of coffee, tea, and chocolate available, and probably the most up-to-date. Readers with a serious interest in these matters would do well to read this book alongside two older classic works, Schivelbusch's Tastes of Paradise (on which the authors rely heavily) and Mintz's Sweetness and Power.

This is great reading! Caffeine is so ubiquitous within society that most of us have never really thought about how or why we use it. In this very comprehensive book, the authors detail the history of coffee, tea, and chocolate. This includes their discovery, cultivation, introduction into various societies around the world, impact on society, opposition efforts and medical implications. The book is written in a very evenhanded tone without a noticeably pro-caffeine or anti-caffeine agenda. It is full of absolutely fascinating historical tidbits. Who knew that coffee replaced beer as the morning beverage in the United States, or that the U.S. Government once brought suit against Coca Cola arguing that the caffeine in the soft drink caused bad behavior in adolescent boys? This book may not motivate you to forgo that morning cup of coffee, but you certainly will stare at it with a bit more insight.

Weinberg and Bealer's The World of Caffeine brings together history, science, culture, and medical studies into one large volume. What promised, according to the cover, to be a book on the science and culture of the world's most popular drug, ended up being a boring treatise on the history of caffeine. It was only towards the last 1/3 of the book, that it really started picking up, and even then, the medical information bogged down. The authors are careful to list all sides in the caffiene debate, from medical studies, to historical perspectives, never endorsing one side or the other. Because of this lack of a firm position on caffeine, the book read with a very dry, emotionless tone. I found the history interesting, but presented as it was here without any correlations and in strict, chronological order, it sounded more like a text book. Such circumstances, such as the rivalry between the British East India Tea Company and the Dutch East India Tea company might have made for more exciting reading, had they been explored further. As someone who has had an on again-off again relationship with caffeine, I expected more than this book delivered. I wanted a thoughtful, compelling look at caffeine, not dry facts. Still, the book is interesting, if you can slog your way through it.

Amazing journey through the world of caffeine. Really almost everything you'd want to know. Some parts are a bit dry, however, so it's not a page-turner.

A well written, scholarly book. I learned a great deal about history, and coffee, its origin, and preparation. May be too much of a good thing for the casual reader.

Thank You!!

I came into this book interested in reading about the history and use of coffee and tea. That is definitely included on this book among a heap of other information. In my own opinion the first two chapters are dry and full of so much speculation and hypotheses that it is difficult to follow what Is true and what is unsubstantiated. I've decided upon this book as being just a reference book for me rather than something to actively read. I applaud the extensive and exhaustive research present in this book but I feel it was not presented as accessible as it could have been.

Thank you much.
