She wants to be a fashion designer but complained to me that she cannot draw! This book contains simplified drawings of fashions to stimulate her imagination with blank pages she can sketch on. It provides a language she can use to communicate designs without several years of anatomy and drawing classes! How perfect was this birthday gift for a 13 year old aspiring to be a wedding dress designer!

I thought there would be at least some step-by-step instruction or modeling. It's just 20 or so pictures of an item that kids can trace or use as a guide. I feel the title is misleading by including "How to Draw". If I wanted a book of pictures for my niece to copy, I would just print pictures from the internet. Disappointed.

I purchased this book for my six-year-old who wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up! She and her nine-year-old sister both use this book as a handy guide to get ideas on how to draw different outfits when they draw characters. My girls are children, so their fine arts talent is limited presently, but this book isn't too complicated and inspires them - fuels them with options that are doable - and in a variety of styles. They also love just flipping through and picking their favorites on each page. It's more than just dresses too - shoes, jewelry, men's jackets, etc. etc. etc. I think this book has a lot of life for teaching them how to draw as they finesse their skills. It's a win.

I was looking for some instructional material for a young person with an interest in fashion design. Was expecting suggested techniques, when/how to use charcoal and hard/soft pencils. Book just shows pictures to copy and a brief note to practice. What a disappointment.

Great book. I absolutely recommend it to kids and teens looking for simple and beautiful ways to render their fashion ideas. Both useful for copying and for inspiration.

I want my granddaughters to learn to draw clothing, so I bought this book at my daughter's recommendation for each of the two oldest girls. This book has been a hit with them and I'm sure will used even more in the coming year.

I was disappointed with this product. I bought this for my 10 year old daughter, who wants to design clothes. I thought this book would be as the title suggested "20 ways to draw a dress" with maybe step by step instructions and some explanations....some kind of 'how to', but nothing. All it is are sketches/pictures of pieces of clothing. That is all..not what we expected.

Needed this for a new job. The company supplied the entire package for Adobe CS5, but I really use InDesign and Photoshop most of the time. I had purchased the Photoshop Dummies book because help was useless. The Photoshop book is much easier to understand. Just look up what you need to do, follow the directions and it's done.With InDesign I was having problems with page numbering. There were at least 6 different places listed in the back index. The frustration set in when I tried to do what the book stated and the program told me it had already been done! I went back and forth with different suggestions in the book. Nothing worked. Finally went online for InDesign for Dummies and got the answer, which was not in any area of the book I found.Other items I've looked up have been much easier explained, but the problem noted above was annoying.Would I buy a Dummies guide again? Yes, for the most part they are very helpful

I purchased this book in order to get up to speed on book publishing with InDesign. I had never used InDesign before, so I assumed (incorrectly) that this would be the best tutorial for those purposes. Unfortunately, the scope of the book is so vast that it fails to cover the basics of book-publishing with InDesign--for example, nowhere can you find a discussion of how to set up a header or footer or running head/foot...not even in the index. I was able to lay out the book I'm working on primarily via Pete Masterson's Book Design and Production and via a handful of InDesign sites and videos. Consulting this book, though, on basic questions proved to be an exercise in frustration.

I expected it to be intuitive, but when I have a problem, no matter how simple, it is too difficult to find the solution in this "Dummies" book. I ask myself "what is wrong with me?" if I can't find a Dummies book satifactory.

Thorough, for those familiar with it. Not for beginners, by any means. Written like a math text for undergrads: definitions, by-ways, and complications first. Examples later. Those who learn by deducing procedure from observing practical examples will find it uncomfortable or inefficient. Index misses some important initial recurring problems, although the text does mention them.

Excellent desktop reference book for those interested in Adobe's InDesign software. I would advise beginners to purchase Gruman's companion InDesign CS5 for Dummies to grasp a better understanding, especially if one has never worked with the software before or is unfamiliar with design. I have Adobe CS4 and found the InDesign software to be somewhat more difficult to get used to.

Best writer out there. We are working on collecting all of her books with this type of artwork. Every one we have bought has made me cry! They're beautiful books in every way. The best books you can buy for a child, young or grown, or anyone who really means the world to you. Growing up being bounced around from foster home to foster home and back with my parents and back into foster homes, I never got to hold on to anything for long. I always loved reading and escaping into books though. We wanted to be sure our boys always have books at arm's reach, books that say something real, that they can always hold on to....even if one day, God forbid, we aren't there to read the books to them. Her stories read like songs, the message is always clear and beautiful and the artwork is stunning! We can't wait to have them all and almost do. Nancy better get to work!

This book is so heart-warming. I read it to my 11 month old and it has a special message that we should all learn from our parents: the unconditional love of a parent regardless of what their child is; it made cry quite frankly. This is what I wish my parents did for me and what I will strive to do for her. This book is a good way to share that message and remember it. The illustrations are beautiful. I am not an art critic so pardon my use of words to describe it. It isn't 100% realistic, but very close to it that it meets my criteria of keeping things realistic looking for my infant. Their a varied use of colors that pleasing that while vibrant are not too much so as to be too stimulating before bed. It is a good size to be comfortable to hold with a baby in your arms for a bed time story and also big enough for an infant to hold and flip the pages themselves. There is variety to the way the format of the pages which keeps things moving at an engaging pace. Some have a few sentences and gives time to linger on the images for a little, others a few words. It also gives the opportunity for the child to engage when older by asking them a couple of questions. In summary, there is a reason this book is so popular. It is very well thought out. I will be purchasing more from Nancy Tillman.

This has taken the spot of favorite bedtime story, at least for now! The boys (5 & 6) love the idea of being able to change into an animal for a day and then my trying to find them. They love making the animal noises, so that it will be easier for me to find them. I always let them each pick a bedtime story, and since this came, they've taken turns picking it every night. Added bonus, they can read most of it themselves, and the WANT to. Love it!Yes, I'm obviousy a Tillman fan, but there's a reason. If it fires the imagination of a child and underlines that they are always loved, no matter what, that's a good thing in the world today.

I love this author! We have “the night you were born” and this is our second - I like how she rhymes but not in an obnoxious way - and the stories are beautiful about motherhood and life - can’t wait to get the others! My lo loves when I read them to him.

Absolutely beautiful book and is one of my favorites, but my 3 year old son doesn't care for it. Maybe when he gets a little older, he will appreciate it more. However, I can't make it through this book without bawling my eyes out.

This is my 1 year old's favorite book. She has me read it to her at least 3 times a day. It's beautifully written. What parent wouldn't love their child unconditionally!? Nancy Tillman always knows the right way to word things. My daughter chewed on the board book and therefore it started falling apart, but it was greatly loved before we needed to recycle it. I'll be buying the hardcover so she has it for years to come!

You know, if you can make a parent, her friends and the grandmother who bought the book tear up, you have a winner...

Nancy Tillman books are such a treasure. There isn't a single book of hers that hasn't left me feeling a little more light hearted and sentimental. The illustrations are just as lovely. I bought them all in board books for my daughter and into read together and I bought them in hard cover to save for her. Best children's author.
