Humanity is often very skilled at inflicting suffering on the rest of the animals with whom she share our planet. This book tells the story of several individuals who are doing their part to try to stop that suffering and help create a kinder world for all animals, humans included. I really enjoyed reading these tales of the different ways people have been called to give a voice to powerless animals. Perhaps the most poignant quote for me in the book:"The history of the world will, one day, be defined by the people who witnessed the tragedy of impending extinction and were able to turn humanity’s destructive patterns into creative solutions."Highly recommend.
The quirky title of this book caught my attention and I decided to buy it on Kindle. I’m glad I did because it’s a great read. Full of adventures and encounters with animals, interesting facts and emotional depth, it takes the reader to exotic places in the company of remarkable people. Even though I’ve always been an animal lover this book has convinced me to ‘not look away’ where animal cruelty is concerned. Skiff demonstrates that if we all do more to help save beleaguered species who can’t speak for themselves we actually improve the future of mankind and I believe her. I loved her previous book too. It was The Divinity of Dogs.
This book was well written, and It showed me that there are people in this world that truly care about all animals. Some of the stories were heartbreaking, but the people that rescued them and their stories were wonderful. I will say that I ended up happy after reading it, because of the diligent effort they put into their rescues. It shows how compassionate they are about what they are doing. Thank you to Jennifer Skiff for writing about these rescues, I never knew about many of them..... And yes, I have rescued ladybugs....
